Wedding ring inspiration of where to start when looking for your ring design. This blog will help you on all the important decisions to make when designing your special ring.
Firstly, congratulations on your engagement. Now you get to start planning your dream wedding and as long as you plan well in advance, it will go smoothly and you will really enjoy the whole process.
Believe it or not, wedding rings are often overlooked in the planning process, you can be so caught up in finding a venue, photographer and caterer that your wedding rings tend to be further down the to-do list. Arguably all elements of arranging a wedding are just as important as each other, but there are only a few that are lasting physical mementos, and your wedding ring is one of them.
You will be wearing your wedding ring for the rest of your life, and in some cases it will be passed down as an heirloom, so you really want to create something timeless and elegant, and most of all, bespoke.
We understand that there is a lot to take in when planning a wedding so hopefully the below tips will help guide you in this process to make it all a little bit easier to create your perfect rings.
We understand that there is a lot to take in when planning a wedding so hopefully the below tips will help guide you in this process to make it all a little bit easier to create your perfect rings.
FOR HIM:
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of men do not wear a lot of jewellery, so when it comes to deciding on a piece of jewellery that you are going to wear for the rest of your life, it’s likely to be a tough decision.
- One of the first points to consider is your job and how hard wearing you will need the metal to be, if you have a softer metal such as silver, then over the years it will wear down quickly. 18ct gold consists of 75% pure gold and 25% other metals, and 9ct gold is 37.5% pure gold and 62.5% other metals, this means that the 18ct will not be as hard wearing as the 9ct gold, despite it containing more pure gold, as this metal is softer. If you require a really hard wearing metal then you can look into either Palladium or Platinum.
- If you do not wear a lot of jewellery then chances are you may want to go for a more subtle ring, there are a few ways of achieving this, most notably you could either go for a darker coloured metal such as palladium, which has a dark grey colour, or alternatively you could go for a hammered or brushed finish, or a combination of the two.
- The width of the ring is completely down to preference but depending on your hand size you may want a thicker band if you have larger hands.
- If you would like your ring to be more personal to you then you can always opt to have a design engraved into the ring, or a personal favourite of mine is to have your partners fingerprint laser engraved onto the inside of the ring, a subtle touch that truly makes the ring that little bit more special.
FOR HER:
- A good place to start with designing your wedding ring is to match the metal to the metal of your engagement ring, this is a long standing tradition but it is for a very good reason, as the metals will be rubbing against each other over time, the weaker of the two metals will gradually wear down. If the metals are the same then this would not be an issue.
- If your engagement ring has a large stone, or is a lower profile setting then it may be the case that a traditional straight wedding ring would not sit flush with your engagement ring, therefore it may be necessary to look into curved wedding rings, these can be designed to perfectly fit and therefore avoid any unsightly gaps between the two rings that you may not want to see.
- Your engagement ring doesn’t have to be the only ring with a stone set in it, if you have your ring designed bespoke then you can customise as much as you like, a popular option is to have small diamonds or gemstones set into the band, these add a little extra sparkle and compliment your engagement ring. If this sounds like something you may like then take a look at some of my previous wedding rings for some inspiration.
If you are still unsure of exactly what you want then another popular tradition is for you to have matching ‘His and Hers’ rings, you can have these made in different thicknesses and sizes so that they look nearly identical as a final result.
